| Thanksgiving Blind Side |

As we all adjust to the radical,
cooler weather changes in the desert and arduously recover from our
respective Thanksgiving holiday, Evangelist, Danny Saltz reminded us in
this Sunday evening's message of practical ways to be spiritually grateful on a daily basis.
Through the word of God and useful points, Danny inspired the minds and hearts of the fellowship to not only appreciate God for what he "has" done (be thankful), but to also "praise" God for what he does and continues to do for us (as clearly articulated in Psalm 100 read by Kelly May earlier during the service). We need to consciously praise God for all his spiritual blessings - His inspired Word, for Jesus Christ, His son, the life we live in Him, and His many wonderful kingdom miracles.
In November, each of our members,
represented in their "small group bible talks", prepared aesthetically
pleasing and scrumptious food baskets to donate to the community. On
November 25th, the Saltz family then went to the Riverside County Office of Education
in Indio to give these baskets to needy families chosen by the
county. "Families receiving the baskets appeared excited and tears
were brought to their eyes" (Danny Saltz) thanks to the members of the
Desert Cities Church of Christ's efforts. "People would not have had a
meal otherwise," stated Saltz.
Also inspirational, the spirit of
Thanksgiving was also well communicated in the movie that just came out
in theatres called
"Blind Side," based on the inspiring true story of
legendary football star, Michael Oher.
Actress, Sandra Bullock, portrays a caring, sophisticated wife and
mother of a wealthy family, who discovered "Big Mike" picking up
discarded consessions after her daughter's volleyball game at a private
Christian High School.
On the way home, she sees him again walking alone without a jacket on a
rainy evening. Her compassionate spirit led her to persuade her
husband to pick him up and give him a place to stay for the night. As
the plot continues in her efforts to take him in and to give him a
better life off the streets and away from negative influences,
Bullock's character's life changes in the powerful way that she could
give back to someone (Oher) who, in return, changed her life also.
"Blind Side" was altogether powerful and inspirational in its effect to
convict one spiritually about gratitude and thanksgiving.
As we continue to enjoy the
holiday season, we all need to be reminded to make an aspired effort to
be grateful to God for all of the many ways He "has" worked in our
lives and His many blessings. Let us also remind each other to pray
for others to be blessed as well and to feel the joy and love brought
upon by God. "Hallelulah!"
